TYPE-D Dual – A New Peak in the Evolution of Titanium Exhausts

After years of refinement and evolution, two legends now stand side by side. The iconic TYPE-R (Single) that set the benchmark for lightweight performance — and the new TYPE-D (Dual), created to balance aesthetics, sound, and precision. Together, they represent the next chapter for the Z (370Z/Z34).

Nissan Fairlady Z 370Z / Z34 – The Golden Era of Pure NA Sports

Released in 2009, the Z (370Z/Z34) became the sixth-generation model in the Z lineage and remained in production well into the late 2020s. Powered by Nissan’s renowned VQ37VHR 3.7L naturally aspirated V6 with VVEL variable valve control, it delivers 336 hp in standard form and up to 355 hp in the NISMO variant. Both 6MT and 7AT versions provide linear, precise throttle response. In an age of electronic control, the 370Z remains one of the last true driver’s NA sports cars.

RSE × TOMEI USA – The Art of Single

In 2015, R.S.E. and TOMEI USA introduced their first exhaust system for the Z34: the TYPE-R Full Titanium Muffler. Born from the concept of “The Art of Single,” it focused purely on performance rather than looks or volume. With its straight-through 80.5mm main pipe and optimized flow path, the TYPE-R extracted every heartbeat of the NA engine’s character. The result spoke for itself — over 5,000 units sold worldwide, making it one of the most successful exhausts in RSE/TOMEI history.

The Challenge of Developing a Dual System

After the TYPE-R’s success, many 370Z owners requested a dual layout for a more aggressive rear view and sound. However, RSE and TOMEI held firm to their philosophy: lightweight means performance. At that time, a dual design would have compromised weight and efficiency, so the idea was shelved. Years later, with advances in titanium fabrication and layout optimization, the development team revisited the concept — this time aiming to create a dual system that combined refined aesthetics with uncompromised performance.

TYPE-D – Redefining Dual Exhaust Performance

fter years of prototyping and extensive testing, the TYPE-D Dual Exhaust System was completed. It carries the same RSE DNA of “function over form,” yet elevates the single layout into a dual configuration designed for modern performance needs.

  • Main Pipe Diameter: Φ80.5mm × 2 (true dual layout)
  • Material: Full Titanium
  • Structure: Straight-through design
  • Weight: 11.8kg / 26.1 lbs (vs. OEM 24.5kg / 54.1 lbs)
  • Sound: Deep, dry titanium tone with a refined low-frequency presence
  • Fitment: Nissan 370Z / Z34 (early and late models)

TYPE-D achieves both dramatic weight reduction and balanced exhaust pressure, amplifying the VQ37’s natural character — deeper, sharper, and unmistakably titanium.

TYPE-D – Redefining Dual Exhaust Performance

ModelLayoutWeightFocus
TYPE-R (Single)Single5.7kg / 12.6 lbsUltra-lightweight, circuit focused
TYPE-D (Dual)Dual11.8kg / 26.1 lbsBalanced street performance & aesthetics

The TYPE-R embodies pure competition performance. The TYPE-D blends beauty, tone, and everyday drivability. Both share the same titanium craftsmanship and uncompromising design ethos of RSE × TOMEI USA.

The Sound – The Force of Titanium

The TYPE-D’s tone defines the Force of Titanium Note. At idle, it resonates with a calm, low-frequency presence. Press the throttle, and it rises into a crisp, dry midrange — culminating in the distinctive, high-pitched cry unique to the VQ37. It’s not just mechanical noise; it’s a crafted instrument built for sound.

Development Philosophy and What Comes Next

The TYPE-D is more than an evolution — it’s a tribute to the legendary Fairlady Z. It bridges the lightweight purity of the TYPE-R with the expressive power and visual balance of a dual layout. Both represent the pursuit of ideal performance by RSE × TOMEI engineers. Currently, development is also underway for the Full Titanium Exhaust Manifold for the 370Z/Z34, designed to pair perfectly with TYPE-R and TYPE-D for the next level of naturally aspirated performance.

An Homage to the Z

To everyone who loves the Z — this exhaust embodies both the joy of driving and the harmony of form and function. If the TYPE-R symbolizes raw performance, then the TYPE-D represents the soul and style of the Z itself. Choose the one that speaks to you, and enjoy every moment that comes with it.
